Effective shade is one of our best defences against UV radiation, reducing our exposure by up to 75%. Queensland is not only the skin cancer capital of Australia, but also the world and that’s because our UV rates are 3 and above all year round, increasing the risk of sun damage and skin cancer. The Portable Shade Project helps provide portable shade solutions to protect Queensland children from sun damage and skin cancer.
For young people, staying sun safe from early on is crucial because UV exposure adds up over time and during the first 18 years of a person’s life is the most critical risk factor for skin cancer.
Cancer Council Queensland is proud to offer fully funded UVE95+% portable shade marquees to eligible non-for-profit organisations. We’ve already provided hundreds of sunshades across Queensland, and we’re committed to expanding our coverage even further and protecting young Queenslanders.
Successful applicants receive high-quality 3×3 metre portable shade marquees, perfect for creating sun-safe outdoor spaces wherever you need them.
Eligibility:
You may qualify for a portable shade marquee if you’re not-for-profit:
- Primary or secondary school
- Early childhood centre
- Junior sporting club
- Community group working with children (up to 18 years).
